Best walks in North Pembrokeshire

North Pembrokeshire is, if we do say ourselves, a stunning part of the world with a diverse landscape that offers some of the best walks in Wales, not all of them guided by the patron saint, mind. Here are some of our top walks in North Pembrokeshire.

  1. Pembrokeshire Coast Path: I mean, if you visit Pembrokeshire and don't do the coast path, did you even visit Pembrokeshire? The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a must-do for any walking enthusiast. Don't be confused though (not kidding, we've heard of people asking where the "walk starts", as if they are planning to do all 186 miles in one go), you'll want to pace yourself. As one of the UK's most renowned long-distance paths, it offers breath-taking coastal views, rugged cliffs, and beautiful beaches. There are various sections to choose from. The walk between Abereiddy and Porthgain is one of the easiest to start with, but you could start the walk at any beach along the coast and just walk until you find civilisation again. If you plan it right, you can pick up the bus along the coast too if you've done enough for one day.

  2. Dinas Island Circular Walk: This circular walk on Dinas Island peninsula is relatively short but rewards walkers with fantastic views of the surrounding coastline and of course includes the very faint remains of an ancient hillfort, as standard. It starts from Pwllgwaelod Beach, takes you up to the summit of Dinas Island, and then loops back to the starting point.

  3. Preseli Hills Walk: Another fantastic walk in North Pembrokeshire. The Preseli Hills are rich in ancient and mythological history and offer panoramic views of the Pembrokeshire countryside. One of the popular walks is the Golden Road, an ancient track that crosses the hills and offers a glimpse into the area's Neolithic past.

  4. Strumble Head Circular Walk: Starting at the Strumble Head Lighthouse, this circular walk takes you along the coastline, providing excellent opportunities for spotting seabirds and seals. The views from Strumble Head are particularly impressive.

  5. Gwaun Valley and Carn Ingli Walk: This picturesque walk takes you through the Gwaun Valley and up to the summit of Carn Ingli (Angel Mountain). The views from the top are breathtaking, and the valley is known for its charming cottages and traditional pubs.

  6. Cwm Gwaun Walk: This peaceful walk leads you through the beautiful Cwm Gwaun Valley, known for its lush greenery, scenic landscapes and ancient woodland. The walk takes you past picturesque farms and along the peaceful river.

  7. Foel Drygarn Walk: Foel Drygarn is an ancient hillfort located in the northern part of the Preseli Hills. This walk takes you to the summit, where you can explore the remains of the Iron Age hillfort and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding area.

  8. Nevern Estuary Walk: This circular walk takes you along the Nevern Estuary, offering a chance to observe wildlife and enjoy tranquil views. The walk passes through Nevern village, known for its historic church and Celtic Cross.

Before embarking on any walk, make sure to check the route, weather conditions, and have suitable footwear and clothing. It's also a good idea to carry some refreshments and inform someone about your planned route, especially for longer walks or more remote areas.
